Project Summary
James Engineering Constructions Ltd (JEL) was appointed by Zenith Structural to support the reinstatement of the GT21 temporary chimney stack at Ballylumford Power Station, delivering a fully integrated engineering and fabrication solution to maintain operational continuity at a key energy generation facility.
The project involved the engineering, manufacture and delivery of replacement sections for a temporary exhaust stack system. JEL’s scope included production of General Arrangement and detailed fabrication drawings, material procurement, precision fabrication, protective coating and logistics coordination.
Project Details
Manufactured from S355J2 carbon steel, the single-wall chimney structure comprised externally flanged segmented sections forming a 6.216m diameter stack across a 40mtr elevation range. The modular design enabled efficient transport and streamlined on-site assembly, incorporating reinforced structural elements and installation-ready connection details.
All works were completed in accordance with BS EN 1993-3-2, BS EN 1090-2 Execution Class 3, and BS EN 13084-7 standards, achieving full CE and UKCA compliance. Comprehensive inspection and quality assurance processes were implemented under JEL’s ISO 9001-certified quality management system.
Fabricated at JEL’s Alfreton facility and delivered to Northern Ireland for installation, the project demonstrates James Engineering’s capability in delivering complex industrial steel chimney fabrication and engineered solutions supporting critical energy infrastructure.
