Andy Whitton

Andy Whitton
Sales and Estimating Director
Andy accidentally fell into engineering at 16 after ringing Worksop College to see what YTS courses were available. Fabrication and welding was the only space left - not exactly his dream plan at the time and he’ll admit he hated it at first, but it didn’t take long before he was completely hooked.
Andy worked his way up through various roles at several fabrication companies, learning everything from the shop floor up. 14 years ago, after becoming a dad and realising job security suddenly mattered a lot more, he moved into an estimating role at James Engineering.
Somewhere along the way he discovered he enjoyed talking to customers almost as much as working with steel. Building relationships, meeting new clients and helping projects come to life made the move into Sales Director feel like a natural step.
Andy is still glad he spent years on the tools and completed his apprenticeship - it means he understand the job from the ground up. Now at 47, he brings a mix of hands-on experience, practical knowledge and a genuine love for the industry… even if it did all start by accident!
Fun Fact / Quote / Motto
One of Andy’s favourite hobbies is taking his wife and daughter to places where he’s worked on projects and giving them a full commentary on everything he did there - usually for the third time and watching their faces light up (or at least patiently pretending to!).
He doesn’t have a single favourite project. What he really enjoys is helping customers find the right solution, winning the work and seeing it through to a successful finish. That sense of achievement at the end of a project is hard to beat.
Outside of work, Andy is happiest being outdoors - walking the dogs, attempting to improve his golf game and generally finding any excuse to spend time outside.
